OREGON ADVISORS OF THE YEAR HONORED
With more than 500 students and advisors in attendance at the annual Spring Conference, we honored this year’s Warren E. Shull middle and high school Advisors of the Year. Several outstanding advisors received Honorable Mention certificates, including: Micki Hall, Roseburg High School; Maegan MacKelvie, Redmond High School; and Vanessa Tharp, Tualatin High School.
Also recognized were this year’s middle and high school award winners.
Middle School Advisor of the Year: Richard McNicholas, Clatskanie Middle School
Mr. McNicholas encourages and challenges his students to reach higher levels of achievement every year. He believes that his students are role models for the student body and strives to better prepare middle school students for the intense demands of their high school’s program.
Learning about public relations, organization and planning an event, as well as involving students in character building activities are strong points of Clatskanie Middle School’s program. His students have said, “He is always there for us, guiding us, and helping us finish and believe in our goals as kids.”
High School Advisor off the Year: Cami Beatty, Oregon City High School
Mrs. Beatty’s students feel as though she has helped to make student council something that students take pride in when helping to make their school a better place. Her administrator sang her praise as a person who has unmatched organizational skills, polished personal relation skills, strong communication skills, is courageous, insightful, students centered, and a risk taker.
Beatty gives of her time so selflessly, that there isn’t much time to relax, instead they are always working on the next project. In continuing so show a love for students, and the program in which they lead, Beatty has organized and chaperoned groups of students from Oregon City High School to attend and present at the National Association of Student Council’s LEAD conference in Chicago. She has also signed up to be on OASC’s summer leadership camp staff this summer. Not only that, but her council has also been awarded the National Association of Student Council’s Council of Excellence and this spring her council received Gold Prize Council in the state of Oregon.
