JULIE KASPER IS OREGON’S HIGH SCHOOL ADVISOR OF THE YEAR

Julie Kasper, activities director for Century High School in Hillsboro, was named Oregon High School Advisor of the Year, at the Annual Fall Conference for the Oregon Association of Student Councils in Seaside on Nov. 2-3.  Kasper, an alumni of OASC, has been the advisor at Century for the past ten years.  She also teaches English and is their dance coach.

At the school, her student council sponsors annual blood drives, a Winter Wishes Week, fundraisers for Doernbecher Childrens’ Hospital, among other activities.  At the state level, she has served as a staff member at the OASC Summer Leadership Workshops, and has presented numerous workshops at state conferences.  This past year, her council earned Grand Prize in the Oregon Student Council Recognition Program, and they earned the Gold designation for the National Councils of Excellence through the National Association of Student Councils.  Also active at the national level, Julie has been a workshop presenter at the National Student Council Conference, and served as a staff member at a National Leadership Camp in Colorado.

Kasper was nominated by her ASB President, Miranda Matthews, who states: “Julie Kasper strives to better the staff and students of Century High School on a daily basis by involving, accepting, and encouraging everyone.  I am so privileged to be able to work closely with her everyday, and everyday I learn something new and valuable.”

As the state finalist, her name will be forwarded to NASC for consideration for the National High School Advisor of the Year.
